IFK Gothenburg has prepared during the ongoing winter window with prestigious acquisitions such as Elias Hagen and Sebastian Ohlsson.

But despite that, there have been no results in the past Swedish Cup group stage.

A victory against Utsikten was followed by an odd-goal loss against local rival Gais, as well as a 4-0 loss against IFK Norrköping.

Ahead of the Allsvenskan start, IFK Göteborg now chooses to make a big change.

Head coach Mikael Stahre may leave his position.

The club announces this in a press release.

- Mikael has put in an enormous amount of time and energy for the team to succeed, and we thank him for that.

But to get the most out of our squad, a change is now required, says club director Håkan Mild.

"Nothing we will stress about"

Mild believes that the decision was taken as a result of the team not getting the desired development and that this is therefore the best solution for IFK Gothenburg.

The assistant coaches Alexander Rengryd and William Lundin take over the main responsibility while the process of recruiting a new coach begins.

- The most important thing is that we are thorough in our recruitment work.

It is not something we will rush through, but it must take the time required to get the right person in place.

We are not setting a deadline or specific date for that at the moment.

The requirements profile is clear, without going into details.

With the squad we have today, we want to achieve success both this season and in the longer term.

The goal is to participate and compete for a European place, concludes Mild in the press release.
