In Austin, Texas, Varvara Gracheva – ranked 66th in the world – hit a forehand too long.

And the miss secured the victory – 6–3, 7–5 – and the WTA title for Marta Kostyuk, who sat down on the court in joy and relief.

The title is the 20-year-old Ukrainian's first in her career.

After the match point, she went straight past the Russian that Kostyuk had just defeated.

- It is very surreal.

It's hard to talk right now, but obviously I'm extremely happy.

"It's very special to win a title considering the position I'm in right now," said 40th-ranked Kostyuk.

This is the second time that 20-year-old Kostyuk has marked against Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Last year at the US Open she refused to take thanks for the match after the loss to Belarusian Victoria Azarenka.
