Kane will make his home debut at Madison Square Garden against Ottawa on Friday night.

- What he has done for himself and for the team has been fantastic.

Getting him into our group is a big moment and big for our organization," Rangers general manager Chris Drury said, according to the NHL's website.

Friday is the deadline for trades in the NHL and already now the biggest star with an expiring contract has been traded.

Patrick Kane is leaving the Chicago Blackhawks and will play the rest of the season, in pursuit of another Stanley Cup, with the New York Rangers.

"Bittersweet to leave a place that meant so much to me"

Patrick Kane has a clause in his contract where he must agree to which team he wants to be drafted to.

So that he wanted to go to New York was obvious.

- The Blackhawks did everything to make the conditions as good as possible for me and it is bittersweet to leave a place that meant so much to me, says Kane.

In exchange, New York gives a first-round pick and a fourth-round pick in this year's draft to Chicago and a third-round pick for 2025 to Arizona, which was involved in the deal, in order to cover a portion of Kane's salary.

The now 34-year-old Patrick Kane was chosen first overall in the 2007 draft and since then has only played in Chicago.

There he has won three Stanley Cups, the scoring league once and been named the league's most valuable player.

One of the biggest offensive stars in the NHL of the 2010s is now joining an offensively strong New York where he will be a teammate with Mika Zibanejad, among other things.
