Major League Baseball Cubs player Seiya Suzuki, who withdrew from the Japanese national team in the WBC = World Baseball Classic due to a side injury, revealed his heart, saying, "I'm really disappointed. I'm very shocked."

During batting practice on February 25 at the Cubs camp in Mesa, Arizona, Suzuki had to withdraw from open games due to tightness in his left flank. I withdrew from the WBC after being tested.

On February 28, one day after the announcement of his resignation, Suzuki responded to reporters' interviews at the campsite, saying, "I'm really disappointed, and I've been coming to the WBC all this time, so I'm really shocked. It's been a long time since I've been in front of Japanese fans. I was really looking forward to it because it was a chance to do it, but I'm very sorry that I had to leave in this way."

After revealing that he felt the tension in his side during batting practice on the 25th, he explained, "There was some tension in my body, but if I play baseball, I will always have tension, so I don't take care of it. I hadn't hurt my side before, so I didn't know how dangerous it was, and it felt like it suddenly came."

He said that he still has pain, "It's a difficult place to heal, and of course it would be best if I could make it in time for the season opener, but I definitely don't want to be in a hurry and leave in the middle of the season, so I want to get it fixed. WBC can only support, but I want to firmly support in front of the TV."
