With barely four minutes left in the first period, Elliot Cadeau jumped in and made his debut in the Swedish national team.

The 18-year-old, who is ranked as the best point guard in his age group in the USA, played a total of just over seven minutes and accounted for four points in the World Cup qualifier.

- He contributes positive energy, is great on the bench and aggressive on the field.

It looks great, said national team captain Mikko Riipinen at halftime about the talent.

"The potential is there"

Sweden created tension at the end of the match when they reduced the gap to seven points with just over two minutes remaining.

But Germany held on and won 73–66.

- Cadeau makes some mistakes, but the potential is there.

It is important that he is allowed to make mistakes so that he can grow in and feel that he is part of the national team, says SVT Sports expert Nick Rajacic.

Sweden's chance to get to the World Cup was already gone before Friday's match against Germany.

Next Monday, the Swedish men's basketball teams face Estonia at home.
