Eva Pinkelnig got a hug from her mother after securing the silver medal in the WC in Planica.

It made her think back to the nasty incident in December 2020, when she heard her mother's voice outside the room at the hospital.

- She wasn't allowed in because of corona, but I heard her and wished I could give her a hug.

NOW I just gave my mom a hug after winning a silver medal.

It's absolutely insane, says Pinkelnig.

"My organs had already begun to fail"

It was in a training jump in the Austrian Seefeld that the accident occurred.

She was taken to the emergency room, where it was found that her stomach was filled with a liter of blood and that her spleen had ruptured.

- The doctors had to act quickly because my organs had already begun to fail.

We had around 10-15 minutes when the spleen burst, otherwise we wouldn't have talked today.

The fact that she has managed to get back is something she values a lot, but it hasn't been completely easy already.

- It has been a roller coaster, with many ups and downs.

But I have always celebrated and appreciated the successes and in the tougher moments I have not lost my humor or my positive energy.

That's why it's incredible that I can win this today, she says.

The German Katharina Althaus won the gold and the Norwegian Anna Odine Ström the bronze.
