Here's how ski jumping goes:

The rider slides down a steep ramp (35-37 degree incline) at a speed of about 90 km/h.

At the end of the ramp, the rider kicks off and flies into the air.

The goal is to try to fly as far as possible and land standing in the landing zone of the hill.

Judges then assign points for how well the jump has been executed and the skater gets points for how far the jump is.

Each jumper may make two jumps during the competition and the jump with the highest total points counts.

The jumper with the highest total score wins the competition.

So was the ski jumping year 2022:

Last year, ski jumping history was made when Frida Westman, then 20 years old, competed in the final in Beijing and came in 16th place.

Sweden has had many ski jumpers in the Olympics, but never before a female representative.

On the podium it was double Slovenian when Ursa Bogataj took the gold and Nika Kriznar finished third.

The silver went to Katharina Althaus from Germany.

Brief history of ski jumping:

Ski jumping has been on the competition program since the Winter Olympics started in 1924. But it wasn't until 90 years later, in 2014 in Sochi, that women were also allowed to compete.

One of the requirements for a competition to be included in the Olympic program is that there must be an international world cup in the discipline and it did not start until 2011/2012 for ladies in ski jumping.
