Russians and Belarusians may participate in the upcoming Olympics under a neutral flag.

The IOC announced this in January.

The announcement has caused criticism from several different quarters, and voices have been raised for a boycott if it becomes a reality.

"Sympathize with all those who suffer"

When SVT Sport raises the issue with Christophe Dubi, Olympic director at the IOC, he is clear that no decision has been made.

- We have not changed our view on the whole thing and no decision has been made.

It is important to emphasize.

But what is going on is an investigation, he says, adding:

- First of all, we must be very clear that we feel for everyone who suffers.

Ever since the first day of the war, we have been fighting to help sports in Ukraine.

It is something that we are determined to do, and something that we continue to do as much as we can.

Swedes open for boycott

The IOC's statement on possible Russian participation in the Olympics came after a recommendation from the UN.

- They expressed concern that athletes are stopped simply because they are Russian or Belarusian.

This means that the IOC, which stands for non-discrimination, cannot fulfill its mission if we keep that recommendation.

Therefore, we are now carrying out an investigation in which we consult with the entire Olympic movement, explains Dubi, and continues:

- And the whole Olympic movement is behind it, so that we can find solutions that are consistent with our values - starting with not discriminating.

You can't stop someone just because of their passport.

An opinion survey carried out by Novus on behalf of SVT Sport shows that a majority is in favor of a Swedish boycott if Russia is allowed to participate in sports championships.
