At the beginning of the year, the election committee presented three main candidates to take over the chairman's baton after Karl-Erik Nilsson, who has been in office since 2011 - former Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, ex-Microsoft CEO Hélène Barnekow and Lars-Christer Olsson, former secretary general of the European the football association, Uefa, and yesterday they announced that their final proposal had landed on Reinfeldt.

Something that Olsson was not quite prepared for.

- I was a little surprised, I thought perhaps that Hélène Barnekow was a stronger card, but apparently the selection committee did not think so.

I thought there was stronger support for that type of candidate among the districts, but I seem to have misjudged that, says Olsson and at the same time announces that he does not see the battle as lost.

- I have reasoned with those who nominated me and they have asked me to remain as a candidate and I have said okay to that.

"He knows football as a spectator"

How do you plan to win this?

- During the autumn, a lot of clouds of worry have appeared in Swedish football and the districts that asked me to run have said that we have to do something about it and stabilize the system and concentrate on the issues that are the most important.

Better cooperation between the different parts of Swedish football is needed, so they turned to me.

And then you feel you have an advantage over Reinfeldt because you're more into it?

Perhaps a longer starting distance is required for him?

- Yes, I would suspect that, because he has never been involved in football, he knows football as a spectator but has not been in it.

But it is football Sweden that gets to decide that.

"Must trust that they listened correctly"

The chairman of the selection committee, Ingmar Alm, who has announced that he will step down from his position in connection with the annual meeting on March 25, is tight-lipped when SVT Sport reaches him.

- We have no comments on that.

It is Lars-Christer Olsson's decision.

Yesterday you said that you listened to the whole movement and came to a unanimous decision.

Lars-Christer Olsson believes that is not quite right.

How do you see it?

- We think we have voted.

That work is handled by each organization representative in the election committee and I have to trust that they have listened correctly, I cannot comment more than that.
