Major League Baseball Angels Shohei Otani will be the opening pitcher for the second consecutive year in next month's season opener.

Angels manager Nevin announced on the 16th that Otani will start in the opening game against the Athletics on the 30th of next month.

Director Nevin indicated his intention to use Otani as the opening pitcher at the press conference the day before, and he told Otani himself before practice on the 16th.

Last season, Ohtani participated in the opening game against the Astros for the first time in history as a starting pitcher, first pitcher, and designated hitter. It was a no-hitter in 4 at bats.

Otani plans to participate in the WBC = World Baseball Classic next month, and if Japan advances to the final on the 21st, he will play a major role for the second consecutive year nine days later.

At a press conference held before Director Nevin told Otani about the opening pitcher, he said, "It's a special thing, so of course I want to do my best, and I haven't been told anything yet, so first I'll adjust it properly and throw it. I need to see where I can be," he said.
