Many years before collecting money from Barça, José María Enríquez Negreira, 77, was already

accused of being an anti-Madrid referee.

He started with a bad resume, born in Barcelona and attached to the Catalan school.

Although he would have preferred to whistle at Barça.

He was recently asked if a referee should be able to manage the club in his birth city.

"Yes. Many would like it, it's clear.

A player from Madrid can play for Barça,

Real Madrid or Atlético de Madrid without problems. A referee doesn't. That handicap exists," he replied to Mundo Deportivo.

For others, Enríquez Negreira continues to be one of the best referees in the history of the League, as evidenced by the Golden Whistle award he received in 81/82.

The Catalan began whistling games in 1975 and ended in 1992. He spent 13 seasons in the First Division and had time to referee 132 games in which he showed 433

yellow cards and 50 red cards

before hanging up the whistle with one last season in the Second Division at 46 years.

Sufficient time to turn Real Madrid into the team that has refereed the most times throughout his career, with 36 games, which meant getting 61 yellow cards and five red cards for his players, as well as nine sent off and three penalties against them.

He was

the referee of the second biggest win in Atlético's history against Real Madrid

, a 0-4 win at the Bernabéu in 86/87, and in which he sent off Real Madrid player Jankovic after 38 minutes.

Or Sporting-Real Sociedad in 1981, which ended 2-2 and made the Basques League champions.

"When I was refereeing, I knew I was going to make a mistake. But I thought: 'Is that why I'm not going to whistle?'" declared Mundo Deportivo.

Enríquez Negreira has whistled all kinds of derbies.

In one of high risk, between Oviedo and Sporting at the end of the 80s, he was stopped by a Spanish television camera entering the stadium surrounded by fans.

Are you worried about something?, they asked.

"The plane back,"

he replied.

After his retirement, he received the gold medal from the Catalan Federation, and in 1994 he became the right hand of the president of the then president of the referees,

Sánchez Arminio

, who named him vice president of the Technical Committee, a position he held without interruption until the end of the 2017-18 season.

As soon as he entered the Committee, he set up the company DASNIL 95 SL, now in the eye of the hurricane, but

whose purpose was initially the wholesale trade of food products.

It was in 2000 when he changed his activity to advertising services for companies, promotions, and gift items, printing texts and making sports videos for marketing.

Epigraph under which he would justify his verbal advice to Barça.

After changing the activity, he appointed his son,

Javier Enríquez Romero

, as the sole administrator, who left him in 2019, just after the years of the controversial payments, from Barça, although the former referee continued to have ownership of the company now investigated by the Prosecutor's Office
