Benfica took a serious option on qualifying for the quarter-finals by winning 2-0 at Club Brugge on Wednesday evening in the round of 16 first leg of the Champions League.
Joao Maio from the penalty spot (51st) and the Brazilian David Neres (88th) scored for the current leader of the Portuguese Championship, deprived of his Argentinian world champion Enzo Fernandez, who left for Chelsea in the winter transfer window.
The second leg will be played in Lisbon on Tuesday March 7.
