In April 2021, a first attempt was made to start a super league in Europe.

This was met with great criticism, both from those in power in football and from supporters.

This led to the majority of clubs dropping out and the attempt being ruled out.

Now a sister company to Super League, A22, has presented a new attempt.

But this time too, the proposal has not landed well.

The organization European Leagues, which represents 40 of the domestic leagues in Europe, believes that they have never spoken to A22, and that they support the model that European cups have at the moment.

"This model is far from broken and does not need to be fixed," they write, among other things.

"Disgusting"

The European Club Association, which represents European clubs, has also written a statement in which they express their "longstanding opposition to the European Super League and any breakaway project".

"This is just another deliberately distorted and misleading attempt to destabilize the constructive work currently taking place between football's real stakeholders to move things forward in the overall good of the European club game," the organization writes.

Even within Swedish football, the proposal has met with criticism.

Mats Enquist, chairman of Swedish Elite Football, writes the following on Twitter:

“Disgusting.

We will oppose this, and I hope all supporters will do so with us.

An NHL in soccer, controlled by "big money".

Corporations, sheiks and oligarchs.

No thanks."
