Hatayspor's Ghanaian midfielder Christian Atsu, who has played for Chelsea and Newcastle, is still missing - despite the club's vice-chairman saying earlier this week that he had been found and taken to hospital.

In addition, the club's sporting director is missing.

- Hatayspor sent a letter.

They informed us that they will not play this season's matches, said the president of the Turkish Football Association Ali Koc at a press conference during the day, Reuters reports about the club from the city of Antakya.

There may also be another team that withdraws from the Turkish league.

Close to 20,000 victims

- If Gaziantep also wants to withdraw from the league, we plan to continue with 17 teams, provided the rights of these two clubs remain intact, Koc added.

The league has been suspended until March 3.

The Turkish league consisted of 19 teams when the earthquake struck.

As recently as Sunday, Hatayspor won 1-0 against Kasimpasa after a goal by the just-missed Atsu in the 97th minute.

It was the province of Gaziantep that was hardest hit by Monday morning's earthquake, which has so far claimed nearly 20,000 victims and where the death toll is rising.
