The Swedish lineup was exactly the same as in the Beijing Olympics last year: Hanna Öberg, Elvia Öberg, Martin Ponsiluoma and Sebastian Samuelsson.

And just like then, it was a missed medal.

Several riders missed

But the medal chance was there right up to the next to last shooting.

Sebastian Samuelsson got there as the fourth man – just 23 seconds from the lead.

And when two of those in front, France's Quintin Fillon Maillet and Norway's Johannes Thingnes Bö, missed three shots, there were good opportunities for Samuelsson to advance.

"Too bad"

But it was just the opposite.

Sebastian Samuelsson missed a total of four shots - and was thus forced into a penalty round.

- What a shame, because we do a really good relay and are really in it for the final.

Sad when it gets like that, the third leg's Martin Ponsiluoma told SVT Sport right after Samuelsson's shooting.

"Something fishy"

Samuelsson's bars were rough.

- Something fishy has happened, because this doesn't happen to "Sebbe", he's much better than that and can't miss so roughly.

I can't explain it, but it's very sad, said the Swedish shooting coach Jean-Marc Chabloz.

When Samuelsson left the embankment, it was as the eighth man, a full 1.38 behind then-leading Italy.

Samuelsson missed three more shots in the final shootout, and eventually finished ninth.

Norway won, after passing Italy's Tommaso Giacomel on the final lap.

The bronze went to France.
