A preliminary study has been started to see if the conditions exist to organize the Winter Olympics and Paralympics in 2030.

Life changes.

I didn't think if I look back a bit that I would be sitting here on this topic, says Björn Eriksson.

- At the same time, it happens at a time that can be a bit tricky.

Yesterday, the Nordic countries went out and scolded the IOC based on the starting point of letting in people from Russia and Belarus.

We have those kinds of questions, but that is no argument against a preliminary study.

It would be malpractice to say "we're not going to find out if we can do this" when there is an opening.

"We are good at sustainability"

Eriksson, speaker at the Swedish Sports Confederation, refers to the International Olympic Committee's new process in the selection of host countries, where great emphasis is placed on sustainability.

- We are recognized as good at arranging.

We are good at sustainability.

There will be new ways to search for events and hand on heart, our best competitive branch has never been campaigning.

There is an opening now and then we have to cope with what the godfather once said in his films: I will give you an offer you can't resist.

That is what we are working towards.

Want to use basics in previous application

The last time Sweden applied for the Olympics was the Winter Games in 2026. In the end it was between Milan-Cortina and Stockholm/Åre and after a vote the Italians won.

Now they hope to be able to use the basics in that application.

- If I lost the match last Sunday, I look at how I'm going to win next Sunday, and we feel that we believe we can do this.

Then whether it's enough, we don't know - but we think so, says Eriksson.
