The American superstar missed out on a medal in the Olympics last year, but has won a super-G competition this winter.

In Monday's combined competition, Mikaela Shiffrin ran out and lost the gold.

And on Wednesday she was not enough.

Marta Bassino impressively won in 1.28.06 – eleven hundredths faster than runner-up Shiffrin.

The Italian ended her run in the best way.

- It is absolutely incredible, technically she is superb.

She hasn't really performed in super-G before so it's fantastic, says Kajsa Kling in TV6's broadcast.

The American thus had to see herself defeated once again.

Shiffrin was looking for her seventh WC gold, and has previously taken gold in 2019 and bronze in 2021 in the discipline.

The Norwegian took bronze

The Norwegian Kajsa Vickhoff and the Austrian Cornelia Huetter both came in third place and share the bronze.

The World Cup in Alpine is decided from February 6-19 in Meribel and Courchevel in France.
