Yesterday, Sam Hallam took the squad to Sweden's home tournament in the Euro Hockey Tour, which will be decided in Malmö next week.

That squad was a mix of players from the SHL and from the Swiss league.

During the fall, Tre Kronor won both EHT tournaments and they served as a bit of a try out for this tournament.

But there are also some players who have not been in before under Hallam who are in now.

- It has given us a great chance to evaluate what we want to do tactically.

To evaluate my job and that of the coaching staff, but also see how the players look in that environment.

Then there have been players who have not had the opportunity to participate during the autumn due to injuries, and we also want to give them the chance and really get to see up close.

WC not run for anyone

Being in the squad next week is probably a good sign if you're aiming for the WC this spring, but for those who aren't, it doesn't have to be done.

- There are players who are not in this squad who are very relevant in the build-up to the World Cup.

Then the competition is very tough and you need to be very sharp to get in.

A WC squad usually consists of around 25 players.

Hallam talks about how he thinks about European players in relation to NHL reinforcements in his first World Cup squad.

- We have said from the beginning that we do not know how big the European body is.

But I think there will be about 8-12 players playing in Europe with a WC team.

Then we want to top it off with good players who do well in their roles away in the NHL.

The most important thing when he is looking for players in the NHL is that they are really motivated to play for the national team.

- It's about finding players who fit into the balance and who are themselves very motivated and hungry to come and contribute to winning a WC gold.

We have an image, but it is also very important how the player feels, says the national team captain.
