Two weeks ago, it was discovered that several referees during the handball World Cup were investigated for match-fixing.

Now information about the potential scandal continues to emerge.

According to TV2, unusually large sums were placed on three matches during Euro 2018 in France, which alerted the gambling industry.

One of these was a goal play at the Denmark-Sweden match, where Denmark won 30–29.

- We have had a lot of fun with the WC and haven't had time to dive into this yet.

But it is of course an important issue and we must focus more now that the World Cup is over, says Handball Association general secretary Robert Wedberg to SVT Sport.

A match between France and Denmark and Russia and Montenegro also raised warning signs.

All three matches "went home" for the player and they all had one common denominator: the referees were the same.

Suspicions surrounding the pair of referees were so strong that French police opened an investigation on 10 December 2018, and the referees were sent home from the championship by the European Handball Federation (EHF).

However, French police closed the investigation.
