Once before, Stefanos Tsitsipas had been in a grand slam final, in the French Championships in 2021. Then there was a loss against Novak Djokovic.

Sunday's final in Melbourne ended the same way.

Djokovic thus won his 22nd grand slam title and tenth at the Australian Open.

The 22 titles mean that he is now tied with Rafael Nadal for the record for the most grand slam victories.

He also steps up as the new world number one.

Broke serve early

Already in the Greek's second service game in Sunday's final, Novak Djokovic showed that he was looking to win his tenth Australian Open title.

The Serb broke Tsitsipa's serve and won the first set 6–3.

In the second it was more even, but even there Djokovic won in the tiebreak – after saving a set point when he was 5-4 down.

Tsitsipas continued to threaten and even took the third set to a tiebreak.

There, 35-year-old Djokovic once again showed his routine and stardom.

He won the tiebreak 7–5 and the set numbers were written at 6–3, 7–6, 7–6 and could celebrate in a boiling Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.
