Ski jumper Katharina Althaus also won the second home World Cup of the season.

The Olympic silver medalist from Oberstdorf won on the new Rothaus ski jump in Hinterzarten with a large lead over world champion Ema Klinec (Slovenia), third was Sara Takanashi from Japan.

For Althaus it was the fourth victory of the World Cup winter, she had previously triumphed in Titisee-Neustadt in December.

"Second home World Cup, second win - I'm a bit speechless," said Althaus on ZDF: "I'm really satisfied.

It wasn't an easy competition, but my jumps were great.” After a dream jump of 107 meters, Althaus was clearly in the lead after the first round, but in the end she was almost twelve meters behind Klinec.

Selina Freitag (Aue) convinced in fifth place, Anna Rupprecht (Degenfeld) was 14th.

In addition, former team world champion Juliane Seyfarth (Ruhla) got her best result of the season in 19th place.

In the overall World Cup, Althaus is still in second place with 853 points, but has reduced the gap to Eva Pinkelnig (1036).

The Austrian had to settle for 13th place and was not on the podium for the second time in the 14th competition of the season.

On Sunday (3.15 p.m.) there is another individual competition on the program in Hinterzarten.

Wellinger best German in ski flying

The German ski jumping men, on the other hand, clearly missed out on a podium finish at the first ski flying World Cup of the season.

Two-time Olympic champion Andreas Wellinger flew to eighth place on the Kulm in Bad Mitterndorf, Austria, as the best athlete in the German Ski Association.

Markus Eisenbichler finished ninth directly behind Wellinger.

The Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud secured victory with jumps of 238 and 231 meters ahead of the Austrian world champion Stefan Kraft and Domen Prevc from Slovenia.

For the overall tournament winner Granerud, who took over the overall World Cup lead from Poland's Dawid Kubacki, it was the fifth World Cup victory of the current season.
