– Seven months before the World Cup at home, sentenced on December 13 for corruption, the president of the French Rugby Federation Bernard Laporte resigned on Friday, announced the Ministry of Sports.

Bernard Laporte, who had stepped down after his conviction for corruption at first instance, resigned from the presidency of the French Rugby Federation during the meeting of the FFR's steering committee, said Friday the Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudea-Castera.

"I can confirm the resignation of Bernard Laporte," said the minister to journalists including AFP, present in the morning outside the premises of the Federation in Marcoussis, near Paris.

Sentenced to a two-year suspended prison sentence and a fine of 75,000 euros, Bernard Laporte was found guilty of having rendered a series of arbitrations for the benefit of the Altrad group - including the granting of jersey sponsorship for the XV of France - after having received from him 180,000 euros in March 2017, under an image contract never executed.
