Ahead of this week's golf event in Dubai, odd scenes unfolded between Patrick Reed and Rory McIlroy based on their completely different setups for the contested LIV tour.

Reed joined the Saudi-backed tour last summer while McIlroy is one of the biggest critics.

Patrick Reed approached McIlroy to say hello and first shook hands with the caddy.

When he was then ignored by McIlroy, he threw a peg at him.

The clip of the incident has spread and become a big talking point in the golf world.

- Since my pegs have advertising from our team in LIV Golf, I threw a peg on the ground as a fun little childish mark.

Funny how such a small thing can turn into me almost stabbing him, says Reed at a press conference.

“Not so nice”

Patrick Reed recently sued a commentator and television station for a large amount of money for defamation.

He believes that they repeatedly called him a cheater and criticized him and others for switching to the LIV tour.

McIlroy says that he has been called as a witness - something he does not appreciate.

- I was at home with my family on Christmas Eve and just wanted peace and quiet.

Then it's not so nice when a lawyer comes knocking on the door... I live in reality, I don't know what world Patrick Reed lives in. If I were him, I wouldn't expect a greeting or a handshake.
