FC Bayern Munich has parted ways with goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalović.

As the club announced on Monday evening, the 42-year-old was released with immediate effect.

"In particular, differences about the way we work together have now led to us going our separate ways," said sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić.

The club did not provide any information about a successor.

The “Bild” newspaper and then Sport1 had previously reported on the separation.

Tapalović has been the coach responsible for the goalkeepers at the Bundesliga leaders since 2011 and is considered a close confidante of national goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

Goalkeeper Alexander Nübel, on loan from Bayern to AS Monaco, recently criticized that there had been very little contact with Tapalović since he had been playing in France.

“During the time I've been in Monaco, there hasn't been much contact.

Before that we had a normal relationship.

I do think that you could have exchanged views about the situation from time to time," said Nübel on ZDF's "Aktuelle Sportstudio".

Salihamidžić then announced: "We will talk about this internally."

FC Bayern loaned Nübel to the Monegasque in 2021.

After Neuer's season ended due to a broken leg, the club tried to get the 26-year-old back early, whose loan contract in France runs until the summer.

Instead, Munich signed Yann Sommer from Borussia Mönchengladbach.

The Swiss made it 1-1 in Bayern's first Bundesliga game of 2023.

Sommer signed a contract until mid-2025.

It is considered exciting to see how the goalkeeper hierarchy develops when Neuer is healthy again in the summer.

Then with Neuer, Nübel and Sommer there would be three goalkeepers under contract who would lay claim to the regular position.

Substitute Sven Ulreich is still there.

Tapalović is a longtime friend and also Neuer's best man.

"Sure, the two are very good friends.

But in the end it's about the goalkeeper coach training the goalkeeper in the best possible way and preparing him for the games," said Nübel.

Like Neuer, Tapalović was born in Gelsenkirchen, but only played for the amateurs at Schalke 04.

Other stations were VfL Bochum, KFC Uerdingen, Kickers Offenbach and Mainz 05. After a serious injury in October 2010, he ended his career and then switched to FC Bayern as a goalkeeping coach, where Neuer also switched.

Both knew each other from their time together at Schalke 04. Tapalović's contract in Munich ran until mid-2023.
