The last time the Olympics were broadcast on SVT was when the games were decided in London in 2012. But starting with the Winter Olympics in Cortina 2026, everyone can once again follow the Olympic festivities on SVT's platforms.

First up is the 2026 Winter Olympics in Cortina, followed by the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, the 2030 Winter Olympics (host country undecided) and the 2032 Summer Olympics in Brisbane.

Discovery has acquired the pay-TV rights during the same period.

But when SVT's program director Jan Helin visited Sunday's Sportspegeln, he did not want to rule out that SVT will also broadcast from the summer Olympics in Paris already next year.

This is because they are now partners with Discovery, which alone owns the Olympic rights for Paris 2024.

Marie Lehmann: Is there any possibility that SVT might also broadcast as early as 2024?

Jan Helin: Now we will be partners until 2032. 2024 is, as you say, Discovery itself.

I have not made any such contacts, we have not had any such discussions, but it is clear that it is an interesting thought.

That much I can say.

ML: Okay, that's great!

Olympics maybe already in 2024 in SVT?

JH: I didn't say that!

I said it was an interesting thought.
