"I decided to go home after two weeks in the Sierra Nevada, due to constant relapses with colds after stepping up the training," he writes in a text message to NRK.

The middle-distance runner has not been able to train properly for a month and has a couple of high-profile indoor races planned ahead.

On February 15, he will run 1,500 meters in Lievin, France, where he set a world record last year.

Marketed as a world record attempt

A week later, he will run 3,000 meters in Madrid.

At both of these galas, the organizer has promoted it as a world record attempt, which caused irritation from Team Ingebrigtsen.

At the moment, the 22-year-old Norwegian is far from any record form.

And the question is whether there will be any gala competitions at all.

“I have to train at least next week to make a decision about running indoors.

The Indoor EC would have been awesome to have been part of anyway," admits Ingebrigtsen.

The European Indoor Championship will be decided in Istanbul March 2-5.
