The death of a 25-year-old soccer player

The American Charlotte Football Club announced, Thursday, the death of its player, Anton Walks, at the age of 25.

The English defender, who previously played for Tottenham, died, according to the American club's statement, following a boat accident in Miami, on Wednesday, as the club arrived in Florida to start a training camp, according to local media.

Walkes started his career with Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League in July 2013.

Walks later succeeded during his career with Portsmouth and Atlanta United, before moving to Charlotte in 2022.

Tottenham tweeted: "We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former player Anton Walkes. The thoughts of everyone at the club are with his family and friends at this very sad time.

It is reported that in 2016, a boat crash off Miami Beach killed Major League Baseball player Jose Fernandez, the Miami Marlins star.

At the time, authorities said, Fernandez and two other people died when their boat hit a pier.
