New year and new clash for Benoît Paire who attacked his opponent's coach during the Challenger tournament in Tenerife on Monday.

While facing Kaichi Uchida for the first round, the French tennis player challenged the coach present in the stands.

Benoît Paire had just made a mistake in the third set, giving three match points to the Japanese.

"Look at your face... You look like my grandpa!"

“From the beginning, you talk, you talk, you talk!

“, annoyed the player while approaching the coach.

" Do not talk !

“, he then launched.

Inappropriate behavior

This new outing by Benoît Paire provoked laughter from the Tenerife public but did not allow the Frenchman to raise the bar.

He finally lost in three sets (7-6, 3-6, 6-3).

On Twitter, the player immediately published a press release to respond to his detractors and in particular to certain press articles which mentioned a clash with a spectator.

“I never spoke to a spectator but I spoke to the coach of Kaichi Uchida, writes Benoît Paire.

The latter behaved unbearably throughout the match, openly and aloud criticizing the referees' announcements, making inappropriate gestures towards the ball boys.

“I try to behave well”

In his post, the player claims to have received no warning and that his opponent apologized for the behavior of his coach.

The latter would also have apologized to the French after the meeting.

Benoît Paire concludes: “I regret my verbal outbursts at the end of 2022 but since the start of 2023, I have been trying to behave well”.
