Anna Seidel from Dresden won bronze over 1500 m at the European Short Track Championships in Gdansk.

In a tactically determined race on Saturday, Seidel was only beaten by Olympic champion Suzanne Schulting (Netherlands), who won the title for the fourth time in a row, and Belgian Hanne Desmet.

The 24-year-old Seidel thus confirms her strong form from the World Cup.

There, Seidel has already been on the podium three times in the current season.

In 2021 she even won EM silver over 1500 m, also in Gdansk.

"I'm happy that I got bronze even though I was ill," said Seidel: "I would have preferred more.

But I've been really sick this week and so happy that I was able to go on the ice and won a medal."

unlucky on Sunday

In the 500 m, Seidel narrowly missed her second medal on Saturday.

With Schulting's success, who won her second championship gold, Seidel was three thousandths of a second off the podium.

Local hero Natalia Maliszewska took silver ahead of Arianna Valcepina (Italy/44.011).

On Sunday in the 1000m, Seidel was unlucky, she got a hand from Xandra Velzeboer (Netherlands) in the face and fell.

Tears came to Seidel, Velzeboer received a penalty.

In the end it was enough for Seidel to place fourth, the title went to Desmet, who defeated Schulting.
