Which TV channel broadcasts and streams Ski Classics?

SVT broadcasts the entire Ski Classics and broadcasts all competitions live.

Most races are broadcast in Vinterstudion.

All competitions from Ski Classics that SVT broadcasts can of course be seen both live and afterwards on SVT Play.

There you can also see highlights from all the races.

When does the Ski Classics run and how many competitions are there?

The season begins on December 10 in Bad Gastein with a team pace over 15 kilometers, one of the shortest races of the season purely in terms of distance.

The longest race of the winter is the Vasaloppet, the first Sunday in March, with its 90 kilometers between Sälen and Mora.

A total of 14 races are run.

The program for the 14th season of Visma Ski Classics includes five new races:

Bad Gastein PTT, Pro Team Tempo and Bad Gastein Criterium during the opening weekend in Austria.

Orsa remains as host but with two new events, Grönklitt Criterium and Grönklitt ITT, Individual Time Trial.

The last newcomer to the calendar is the season finale, Summit 2 Senja, which runs in Norway on April 2.

How does Ski Classics work?

  • The competitions are of different lengths.

The longest race of the season is the Vasaloppet with its nine miles, the shortest on the competition calendar is 15 kilometers.

  • In total, the entire Ski Classic tour covers 810 racing kilometers spread over 14 competitions.

  • The riders ride in different teams, which means that you don't compete for your country, but for a team with several different nationalities in it. There is also a cup between the teams in addition to the individual ranking.

  •  Women and men drive the same distance, but the women usually get to start a little earlier.

Who won last year?

Britta Johansson Norgren won the overall on the women's side in the 2021/2022 season.

It was the sixth time Johansson Norgren won the Ski Classics.

After the season, the best long-distance skier of all time on the women's side chose to end her elite career.

Britta Johansson Norgren is this year an expert in the Winter studio during the Ski Classics broadcasts.

Andreas Nygaard won on the men's side.

The Norwegian thus became the first skater on the men's side to win the total three times.

Nygaard's previous championships came in the 2018-2019 and 2020-2021 seasons.

What are Grand Classics and a Grand Slam?

The four biggest races in Ski Classics make up The Grand Classics:

Marcialonga, Jizerska50, Vasaloppet and Birkebeinerrennet.

Whoever wins all four in the same year takes a Grand Slam, something that no skater has managed to do so far.

What do the different vests mean?

  • Yellow (Ski Classics Champion) – worn by the overall cup leader.

  • Green (Sprint) – Worn by whoever has accumulated the most sprint points.

There are 0-2 sprints per race where the first seven get points.

  • Red/black-checkered (Climb) – worn by the leader of the mountain prize competition.

Here, too, 0-2 mountain prizes per competition and the seven fastest get climbing points.

  • Pink (Youth) – worn by the best overall finisher who is 26 years of age or younger.

  • Black/white/grey-checkered (Veteran) – worn by the skier, male or female 44 years or older, with the most ski classics ranking points

  • Team competition – the overall best team wins the team competition.
