Sweden faced the USA in the group stage and lost 6-3.

The team was therefore eager for revenge before the semi-finals.

But after a strong Swedish start, it was then the USA who scored the first goal of the match.

It was an invitation that led to the USA's lead goal, when Sweden lost the puck behind its own goal.

In front of the box, several American players were unmarked, and Lucia DiGirolamo was able to put a backhand shot into the Swedish box from close range.

Sweden thus went into the first period break at a disadvantage, but in others expulsions cost the USA dearly.

A Swedish equalizer came after just over four minutes had been played, when it was five against three.

Mira Jungåker finished from outside and the puck found its way into the goal.

The US was awarded the wrong goal

After that, it only took about two minutes before Sweden's junior ladies had the lead in the match.

Even then, Sweden played the power play and Astrid Lindeberg finished with another long-range shot.

A strong second period by Sweden and at the break in the lead.

In the third period, however, Sweden was more passive on the ice.

The USA had the upper hand, and with barely a quarter of an hour left, they were awarded a goal to make it 2-2.

But on video review, it was clear the puck hit the crossbar, and was never inside the frame, and the referees revised their decision.

Sweden then managed to hold off in the end, thanks in large part to Felicia Frank in the box, and with 2-1 on the board at the final whistle, the junior ladies could celebrate a place in the final.

This after having a goal in the open box ruled out for offside in the final minutes.

The last time, and the only time, Sweden played a final in the JVM was in 2018. Then it ended with a silver.

The USA has never before missed a final in the JVM.

The final will be played on Sunday starting at 20.00.

The opposition will be decided in tonight's semi-final between Canada and Finland.
