Former sekiwake Oki no Umi, who has been active for a long time in the sumo makuuchi, will retire from active duty on the 14th and will succeed to the name Kimigahama.

Oki no Umi from the Octagonal Room is 37 years old from Okinoshima Town, Shimane Prefecture.

He stepped on his first ring at the first tournament in 2005 and climbed the ranks with four sumo wrestling characteristics.



He was promoted to the new juryo in the spring tournament in 2009, and after making his debut in the spring tournament in the following year, he was promoted to the new Sanyaku Komusubi in the summer tournament in 2013.

And in the spring of 2015, he was promoted to sekiwake, the first new sekiwake from Shimane prefecture in 121 years.

The total number of reigns in the makuuchi is 75 places, which is second only to Tamawashi and Tochinoshin with 80 places among active wrestlers.



Imabasho, who started with the 12th maegashira of the west, was absent from the 13th due to lack of clarity with five consecutive losses from the first day.



The Japan Sumo Association announced on the 14th, the 7th day of the first place, that it had retired from active duty and approved the succession to the name of Toshiyori Kimigahama.



Oki no Umi will meet on the afternoon of the 14th to discuss the details of his retirement.
