The national teams of Iraq and Oman qualified for the semi-finals of the Arab Gulf Cup Football Championship "Gulf 25" held in the city of Basra, after the first defeated Yemen 5-0, and the second defeated Saudi Arabia 2-1, in the third and final round of the first group competitions.
The Iraqi national team raised its score to 7 points after its victory in the second round against Saudi Arabia 2-0, noting that it started its participation in the tournament with a negative draw with its Omani counterpart.
On the other hand, the Yemeni national team suffered a third consecutive loss, after the first against Saudi Arabia 2-0 and the second against Oman 3-2, to continue its inability to achieve the first victory in the history of its participation in the tournament.

The Oman national team also raised its tally to 7 points, after previously defeating Yemen and drawing with Iraq, to occupy second place in the group on goal difference behind Iraq.
The Saudi “Al-Akhdar” bid farewell to the competitions, after its score was frozen at 3 points from its victory over Yemen, in exchange for two defeats against Iraq and Oman.

In the first match, at the Basra International Stadium and in front of a large audience of more than 60,000 spectators, the "Lions of Mesopotamia" hit hard and achieved a wide victory over its Yemeni counterpart, 5-0.
Mustafa Nazim opened the scoring for the Iraqi national team in the 40th minute, with a header that deceived the Yemeni goalkeeper, and thus the first half ended.

The second half witnessed absolute control of the Iraqi national team, who scored a second goal by Amjad Atwan with a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area in the 64th minute.
