DFB President Bernd Neuendorf is keeping a low profile when it comes to Bierhoff's successor.

“The names I read are all exciting.

All I can say about Rudi Völler is that I really appreciate him and he's a real guy, we get along well," said Neuendorf on Thursday at a panel discussion on "What comes after Qatar?" in the German Sports & Olympic Museum in Cologne .

According to "Kicker" information (Thursday), ex-world champion Völler, who is traded as the successor to the resigned DFB director Oliver Bierhoff, currently has time to think about it.

Accordingly, the decision-makers around Neuendorf are said to have identified the 62-year-old as the ideal person for the period up to and including the EM 2024 in their own country.

Rudi Völler would be a free transfer

Neuendorf pointed out that the German Football Association had agreed on a route with the task force that was formed to work through the national team's preliminary round failure at the World Cup in Qatar.

Völler is also part of the expert council.

“We've had one round so far and we meet again next week.

And then we will evaluate what we collected in the first round and then come back to see who fits this profile," said Neuendorf.

In the summer, Völler ended his commitment as sports director at Bayer Leverkusen and would therefore be available for the DFB on a free transfer.

Manager Fredi Bobic from Hertha BSC is also being traded, but according to a Sky report on Thursday, he should not be Bierhoff's successor.

The 51-year-old will remain the managing director of the Bundesliga soccer club Hertha BSC, the broadcaster reports.

The main reason should then be that the overall package is currently not financially feasible for the DFB;

a transfer fee to Hertha would have been due.

"Basically, my life planning looks different," Völler recently told the "Bild" newspaper about the speculation about his person.

Borussia Dortmund's managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke, who is also the head of the supervisory board of the German Football League and also a member of the DFB expert council, described the considerations about Völler as "highly speculative" on Wednesday evening.

In the pay-TV channel Sky, Watzke also emphasized that he had "a very, very good opinion" of Völler and had "got along brilliantly with him for many years".
