Now Mensah is awaiting answers from a second test, which, according to the association, will determine whether he can be ready for Denmark's World Cup opener against Belgium in Malmö on Friday.

"It is of course hugely frustrating not knowing if I can be part of the WC from the start.

Especially when corona is not considered a serious disease either here at home or in the host country Sweden, and I otherwise feel completely healthy," says the nine-meter player who plays everyday in Flensburg, Germany.

Before the WC, many players have sharply criticized the fact that the International Handball Association (IBU) requires corona tests before and during the tournament.

The players have been tested 72 hours before arriving at the WC and will then also be tested before the intermediate round and before the knock-out matches.

Denmark is the reigning world champion and could become the first ever to win three consecutive World Cup golds.
