The Iraqi fans present at the Gulf Football Championship matches, "Gulf 25", held in Basra (south of the country), showed a strong commitment to preserving football stadiums, by launching a campaign to clean the stands after the matches.

Clips circulated on social media in Iraq documented a number of Iraqi fans who toured the stands to remove garbage from the seating, in the manner of Japanese culture that characterizes Japanese fans in major tournaments, the latest of which is the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The ambassador of the Iraqi Football Association, Nabaa al-Dabbagh, published a video clip on her Instagram account, urging the fans to remove garbage from the stands and streets.

In the video, al-Dabbagh addressed the Iraqi fans who attended the opening match between Iraq and the Sultanate of Oman, saying: "Please do not throw waste. This bag I brought because I know there are many things that must be removed. I hope everyone contributes to that."

A video clip showed a group of young people removing waste from the stands of the Olympic Port Stadium, after the matches in Bahrain and the UAE, and Qatar and Kuwait, last Saturday.

One of the initiators of removing rubbish from the stands said, in a video clip monitored by fans from inside Al Mina Stadium, that what he did is a duty towards the property of citizens and the state, and that preserving it is a collective, not an individual responsibility.

Iraqis praised, on social media platforms, the football fans' showing their keenness to make the tournament a success in all forms, and through individual efforts that would deliver messages to the world about the awareness of the people and their civilization.

Tweeters called on all fans who intend to attend the rest of the tournament matches to keep the stadiums and surrounding areas clean, as they will be a destination and destination in the future to host other football tournaments.

Iraq is hosting the Arab Gulf Cup, in its 25th session, for the first time, 44 years after the first hosting in Baghdad in 1979, as the tournament could not be held in the country due to the events and wars in Iraq.

Last Friday, the city of Basra witnessed a dazzling opening ceremony for the 25th Gulf Championship at the Palm Trunk Stadium, in the presence of the heads of the Gulf football federations, and FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
