The final of the National University Championship, which determines Japan's top university rugby team, was held at the National Stadium in Tokyo.

The final of the National University Rugby Championship was held at the National Stadium on the 8th, and Teikyo University, who won the Kanto University competition with a clean sweep, faced Waseda University, which boasts the most 16 wins in the university championship.

Immediately after the start, Teikyo University displayed their characteristic power and speed in their attacks, and TAKAMOTO Mikiya, who was standing off in the 2nd minute of the first half, dodged the opponents with quick steps to score the opening try.

After that, Waseda scored two tries in a row and gave up temporarily, but a powerful forward broke through the opponent's defense and turned the game around. I ran all the way and took a try, and I turned it around with 28 to 12.

In the second half, Teikyo University surpassed them in terms of strength and speed of contact. Mikiya TAKAMOTO used individual kicks to score a 50-meter try by himself. Scored 11 tries.

He defended and held down Waseda University's counterattack in the second half to eight points, one penalty goal and one try.

According to the Japan Rugby Union, the highest score so far in the final of the university championship was Tenri University's 55 points, and the biggest score difference was 43 points in 2015 when Teikyo University beat Tsukuba University. Both records were greatly updated with overwhelming attack power.

In the early stages, Waseda University scored consecutive tries from their specialty of cooperative play and took the lead for a while, but Teikyo University's strength of contact pushed them in, and just before the end of the match, winger Eito Maki intercepted the opponent's ball and took the lead. Although he scored a try, he lost by a large margin.

Teikyo University player Chihiro Matsuyama "Thanks to those who have supported me until now"

Chihiro Matsuyama, captain of Teikyo University, said through tears, "I am very happy to have won the championship, and I would like to thank everyone who has supported me until now."

After that, "I called out to them to play their own rugby until the final whistle blew. I've been doing my best to play for the team for a year, and not only the members but also the outside members are fighting. It's been a good year," he said.
