As the first player in NBA history since its inception in 1946, Markkanen managed to make at least twelve free throws in a row in three games without missing a single shot.

- My teammates did a fantastic job of delivering the ball to me and it was just to finish my shots, says Markkanen according to AP.

Teammates were ecstatic at the bench and a disappointed buzz went through the hall when Markkanen missed a late three-point attempt and fell short of 50 points.

It was Markkanen's fourth game in the last eight in which he scored at least 30 points.

- Jordan (teammate) said: "Just go for 50".

And I know they tried to make room for me at the end and it was great to see my teammates so excited, says Markkanen.

Best in Utah since the days of Karl Malone

Houston's coach was disappointed that his players drew far too many fouls, paving the way for Markkanen's free throw record.

- The penalty kick was too significant.

When a guy gets a lot of points, you have to be disciplined and not foul him and give him the chance 13 times.

That's usually how it works, says Stephen Silas.

When Markkanen entered the locker room, teammates were waiting with water bottles and ice and sprayed him down.

It was the first time in 24 years that a Utah Jazz player scored more points in a game.

In April 1998, the legendary Karl Malone scored 56 points against Golden State.
