Bengan Johansson is one of Swedish handball's all-time greats and one of the most meritorious coaches in the world, ever.

With the Swedish men's national team, he won 13 medals at the EC, WC and Olympics.

The coaching legend died in May 2022, aged 79.

- Bengt Johansson, together with his national team "Bengan Boys", has inspired countless children and young people to play handball and with his inclusive leadership style he has inspired many leaders, both nationally and internationally, not only in handball, says Fredrik Rapp, chairman of the board of the Swedish Handball Association to the Handball Association's website.

"Feels extremely nice"

Now the Swedish Handball Association has decided to produce two new SM trophies that will be named after Bengan Johansson.

- Bengt is forever a prominent part of Swedish handball's history and is in the heart of Swedish handball, and it feels extremely nice to be able to honor Bengt's memory with a trophy, says Fredrik Rapp.

The trophies, which will be a walking trophy, will look the same for the ladies and the men will be awarded to the WC winner from 2024 onwards.
