Iivo Niskanen had a tough time in the classic race over ten kilometers in Oberstdorf in the Tour de Ski.

He was far behind early on and chose to get off after the first lap.

He was then far from the lead with the sovereign Kläbo and Calle Halfvarsson.

- Today almost everything went to the fanders, says Niskanen to Yle.

He had problems with his skis and could not relax on the climbs, he says.

- The intention was that I would be in the lead if I wanted to continue, but since I was quite far behind, there was no point in continuing.

- It didn't make sense to continue competing today, he says.

The Tour de Ski was Niskanen's first World Cup races this season after suffering from covid-19.

Now it will be a while before he can compete in the World Cup again because he is breaking the tour.
