The English national team player has shown good form lately but unexpectedly had to start on the bench in Saturday's meeting with bottom team Wolverhampton.

Coach Erik ten Hag explained his decision this way to UK BT Sport:

- A disciplinary measure.

According to the BBC, the player has not followed the team's internal rules, but it should not be a serious offence.

The young Argentine Alejandro Garnacho took his place in the starting eleven instead.

- No details.

Our rules.

Now the focus is on the match.

He is in very good shape and nobody can play all the games, ten Hag told the BBC before kick-off.

Also had a failed goal

But after a goalless first half, ten Hag chose to play his attacking star after all.

And it turned out to be a successful move.

In the 76th minute, on a pass from Bruno Fernandes, a courted Rashford held off a few opponents and pushed in 1-0 from close range.

Shortly after, he had another ball on goal, but that goal was disallowed after video review showed that Rashford's own return took the arm and into the goal.

Elanga substituted at the end

The match ended 1-0 and United climb from fifth to fourth place in the limping table with 32 points.

Arsenal, as players later today, currently tops on 40 points.

Victor Nilsson Lindelöf spent the match on the bench while Anthony Elanga was substituted in the 93rd minute.
