Boston's Linus Ullmark resisted well on the rebound, despite proper pressure from opponents New Jersey, who had the upper hand in the first period in terms of number of shots on goal: 16–8.

After a scoreless first period, Boston took over the shot advantage in the second period 13-6, which paid dividends when Trent Frederic, assisted by Hampus Lindholm, scored the first goal after just under nine minutes.

Lindholm with double assists

New Jersey's Nico Hischier equalized early in the third period, assisted by Fabian Zetterlund.

In the 16th minute, Boston regained the lead when Patrice Bergeron got the puck into the opponents' box.

That goal was also produced by Hampus Lindholm.

Just over two minutes later, teammate Pavel Zacha put the nail in the coffin and made it 3–1 to Boston.

Ullmark saved a total of 29 shots and was thus named one of the player of the match.
