With 88 titles, Kathy Whitworth is the golfer with the most titles on a single tour, six more than Tiger Woods who has shared first place on the men's side.

Born on September 27, 1939 in Texas, Whitworth turned pro at age 19, four years after she started playing.

According to a statement on the LPGA tour's website, she passed away suddenly during a Christmas celebration with her family.

She was 83 years old.

“The world of golf and the world in general has lost one of its most incredible women.

Kathy was a champion in the truest sense of the word, both on and off the golf course,” said LPGA Tour Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan to the LPGA website.
