The Christmas Day games are a tradition in the NBA that always attract many viewers.

The matches are important as marketing for the league and there are often juicy matches on Christmas Day.

In the meeting between Dallas and Los Angeles, the visiting Lakers opened strongly.

They took an early 23-9 lead and then led by 11 points at halftime, 54-43, behind 18 points from the league's biggest poster name, LeBron James.

Then the team collapsed like a house of cards in the third period.

Dallas won that period 51-21, going from an eleven-point deficit to a 19-point lead.

Mainly thanks to magnificent shooting and nine three-pointers, combined with the Lakers lacking offensive weapons without LeBron on the court.

51 points in one and the same period is partly a club record for Dallas, partly the best number of any team in the league this season.

38 points by LeBron

LeBron James, who owns several of the records when it comes to Christmas basketball, kept his Lakers in the game for a long time all by himself and scored 38 points.

However, it wasn't enough as Dallas won 124-115.

Luka Doncic - who was magical in the last game - shone again with 32 points, nine assists and nine rebounds.

The Slovenian star received a standing ovation from the home crowd in the closing minutes when he finished playing for the day.

Earlier in the day, a statue of club legend Dirk Nowitzki was unveiled outside the arena.

The German led Dallas to the NBA title in 2011 and was named the league's most valuable player in 2007. He spent his entire career in Dallas, 21 seasons, and no other player in NBA history has done as many seasons, or games (1,522) with one and the same team.
