Primoz Roglic is taking a break from the Tour de France.

Unhappy over the past three years, with the loss of the yellow jersey during the penultimate stage in 2020 then two crashes in 2021 and 2022 having forced him to retire, the Slovenian will not be at the start of the Grand Boucle on July 1 in Bilbao, announced the formation Jumbo-Visma during the presentation of the team Thursday in Amsterdam.

After having largely contributed to the victory of his teammate Jonas Vingegaard, in particular in the legendary stage of Granon, Roglic decided to focus on a new objective: the Tour of Italy.

“Wilco Kelderman will support him and we will build a strong team around Primoz.

Having two strong leaders is a luxury and we will give everything to win this Giro”, explained sports director Merijn Zeeman during the presentation of the team in the absence of the rider, excused for family reasons.

Dear @giroditalia,

The battle on the Italian roads promises to be beautiful.

Roglic will have as an adversary in particular the world champion Remco Evenepoel, winner of the last Tour of Spain.

Thibaut Pinot also announced that he would favor the Giro, which he will return to five years after his last participation.
