It was in April that the German former tennis star Boris Becker was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for financial crimes in connection with his personal bankruptcy.

However, eight months in a British prison was enough before he was released last week.

Now he opens up about the tough times for the German TV channel Sat1.

- No bastard cared who I was, you are a zero in prison, says Becker according to The Sun and continues:

- You are a number, mine was A2923EV.

I was a number.

And they don't give a damn who you are.

However, the time in prison was not entirely in vain.

- I think I rediscovered the person I once was.

I have learned a hard lesson.

A very expensive lesson, a very painful one.

But overall, I have learned something very important and good, says Becker.

Becker was convicted of hiding assets worth millions of pounds - to avoid paying off his debts - and of concealing debts.

He allegedly transferred large sums of money from his company account, failed to declare a property in Germany, hid a bank loan of just over eight million kroner and shareholdings in a technology company.

According to The Sun, the tennis legend must have received over SEK 5.5 million to conduct the interview.
