France lost yesterday's dramatic World Cup final against Argentina on penalties.
One of the Frenchmen who missed a penalty was Bayern Munich's 26-year-old Kingsley Coman, whose Instagram account has been hit by several racist and derogatory comments - but also many who support him and condemn racism.
"Standing by your side"
His club has noted that, and published a Twitter post on the subject on Monday afternoon.
"FC Bayern condemns the racist hostility towards Kingsley Coman in the strongest possible terms.
The FC Bayern family stands by your side, dear king!
"Racism has no place either in sport or in our society," writes the club.
Even after last year's dramatic EC final between Italy and England, which was also decided on penalties, there was a sad aftermath with racist attacks against the black England players who missed penalties.
Several of those who attacked these players on social media have been legally punished for it.
