The Russian president enjoyed the spectacle offered by France and Argentina on Sunday in the final of the 2022 World Cup. And he made it known this Monday during a press conference in Minsk, Belarus.

The head of the Kremlin thanked the two selections for their "brilliant game".

Russian President Vladimir Putin thanked France and Argentina, who played the 2022 FIFA World Cup final the day before, for a "brilliant game" on Monday evening, while hailing the "deserved" victory of the men of Lionel Scaloni.

"You have to thank both teams for this brilliant game. They created a real party for the fans (...), fighting with dignity until the last second," said the head of the Kremlin, during a press conference in Minsk, stating that he had followed the second half of the match won by the Argentine selection online.

Russia, excluded from competitions

Due to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, it is impossible for the Russian selection to take part in any international competition.

It is also impossible for him to participate in any qualifying match for the next big tournament, in this case Euro 2024 which will be played in Germany.

At the last World Cup, played at home, Russia had reached the quarter-finals.

She had to surrender against Croatia, future finalist, on penalties.

A few days later, Vladimir Putin went to greet the French world champions in their locker room, alongside Emmanuel Macron.
