Erik Persson was chasing a medal in the final of the 200 meter breaststroke at the Short Course World Championships in Australia, but had a difficult start to the race and finished fifth - just under a second off the podium.

- Not completely satisfied, considering how it felt this morning, this is where I could swim today.

It's hard to say what's missing, it's not as easy as I'd like.

I'm a little disappointed now with the result here, says Erik Persson in SVT.

It was double Japan on the podium as Daiya Seto won in a time of 2:00.25 ahead of the American Nic Fink and third was Ippei Watanabe.

Persson set a season best with 2.04.01 in Friday's attempt, which was the sixth fastest time.

The 28-year-old took silver in the 200m breaststroke at the long-course World Championships last summer, but sat out the long-course EC in August to aim for this championship.

Louise Hansson fifth in 50 meter backstroke

In the 50 meter backstroke final, Louise Hansson was fifth in 26.00 and Hanna Rosvall was sixth in 26.05.

Margaret MacNeil won, setting a new world record of 25.25.

Second was Claie Curazan and third was Mollie O'Callaghan.

- I am delighted to defend the sixth place I entered with, says Hanna Rosvall.
