After the first race, the Swede was in sixth place, half a second behind Slovakian Petra Vlhova.

Federica Brignone then took a big lead with a sharp second run and the feeling then was as if someone could attack the home rider.

The answer came immediately when Sara Hector crossed the finish line 55 hundredths faster than Brignone.

Hector got off to a great start and really pushed the accelerator throughout the ride.

Coach Jörgen Nordlund tied his fists for a fantastic second run.

But the Italian fans would get to celebrate a home victory after all.

Marta Bassino, second after the first race, was responsible for a great finish in her second race and took home the victory.

Hector was second and Petra Vlhova third.

- I am really, really happy about this victory at home.

The Italian crowd is amazing and I feel as good as ever.

It was really tough on the hill, but I did my best and the feeling is incredible, says Bassino in his victory interview.

Hector opened the giant slalom season two weeks ago with a third place in Killington, USA.

In the giant slalom cup, Sara Hector is second with 140 points, 40 behind just Marta Bassino.
